As much as we dislike getting electric bills they are an everyday part of our lives, just like fuel costs, food costs, clothing costs, and the list could go on seemingly forever.

The bill you receive will show the kilowatt hours used for a specified period of time and the dollar amount owed. Included in the total due will be a base charge.

The base charge is used to cover fixed costs that the co-op has in order to supply service. These costs come from depreciation, taxes, interest and operation & maintenance expenses. By using a base charge every member must pay a fair share to have service, regardless if the service has high usage or no usage at all.

We have in excess of 1,500 annual or seasonal accounts, which normally have a very low revenue return to the co-op because of minimal usage. So, it is easy to understand the importance of the base charge.

Through the course of a month of electric usage, we tend to forget the hundreds of tasks electricity performs for us. We tend to look at the electric bill as just another household expense. Your electric bill is simply a statement for all the safe and efficient service electricity has performed for you in the past month.

When is my bill due? You should receive your electric bill around the 1st of each month. This bill is due by the 15th of the month.

When is my account subject to a past due notice? We generally close our books around the 25th of each month. The amount due when the books are closed is past due and a past due notice will be sent. To avoid being disconnected - All payments must be in our office by the date designated in the past due notice. Our linemen begin disconnecting past due accounts at 8:00 a.m. on the disconnect day stated in the letter.

What if my service is disconnected for non-payment? Any account disconnected for non-payment must pay the following before the account can be reconnected:

  • A $75 reconnect fee.
  • A security deposit (if one has not already been paid). - The minimum security deposit is $200 and could be much higher depending on average monthly usage.
  • Total amount due.
