Power outages do not happen often. But when they do, you should know the correct procedure for reporting an electrical outage to McCone Electric Co-op. If your service is interrupted, the first thing to do is check your fuses or breakers to make sure the problem is not your own. If you have a main breaker below your meter at the pole, check it too. Flip the breaker switch off and then on again. If your power is still off after checking your home, check with your neighbors that are on the same line as you. This information will help MEC's dispatcher determine how widespread the outage may be.
When you call, give dispatcher:
- Your name (name of account)
- Location
- Phone number
- Any information that you already know about the outage
- Time outage occurred
If you get a busy signal, please keep calling. We will answer the phones as fast as we can. Others may also be trying to reach us, so please do not call again once you have reached us. Rest assured we will work around the clock, if necessary, to restore your service as quickly as possible.
MEC Phone Numbers:
Headquarters Circle 406-485-3430, or toll free 1-800-684-3605
While The Electricity Is Off:
Keep the refrigerator and freezer closed. Food can keep 24 to 48 hours if you do not keep checking on it. If outage should last longer, make arrangements to move your food elsewhere.
Life Support Equipment:
If someone at your residence is dependent on life-support equipment that needs electricity to operate - CALL US NOW! We suggest you have a stand-by generator available as a precautionary measure. Keep a copy of this information by your phone, since you will probably not be able to access your computer during an outage.
